"Simply put, Welsh Water continues to illegally dump sewage into our rivers and coastal areas AND take home bonuses for doing it!"

It is illegal for sewage companies to release untreated, raw sewage unless their infrastructure is at capacity. But Welsh Water has been discharging sewage in multiple locations for a number of years while there is still capacity in their network.

Last year alone there was 80,780 hours worth of sewage dumping in North Wales.

Llanfairfechan's Lib Dem councillor Leena Sarah Farhat said it’s time to take immediate action to stop the catastrophic sewage scandal.

“Wales’s Labour Government, and the Conservatives in Westminster, have been letting Welsh Water get away with this for too long.”

“It’s a national disgrace that illegal sewage discharges continue. Especially when Welsh Water are putting customer charges up while paying bosses over £1 million worth of bonuses in the past 3 years.”

“Sewage pollution is a major environmental threat in North Wales. Raw sewage is regularly discharged into rivers and estuaries, causing harm to local wildlife and posing a risk to human health. Fish populations have declined, and swimming and kayaking have become unsafe due to sewage pollution. Sewage pollution also poses a serious health risk. Harmful bacteria and viruses in sewage can lead to severe illnesses, and microplastics, tiny plastic fragments, can enter the food chain. This pollution threatens local health, businesses, and tourism.”

“This is why the Lib Dems want a new independent regulator with the power to issue unlimited fines to water companies who continue to illegally discharge sewage. The Lib Dems will also ban bonuses for water companies until they fix their infrastructure.”
